Technical terminology and explanations from the field of fire protection

Fire protection as a preventive measure – something everyone is confronted with almost every day. Although this issue should concern everyone, there are many technical terms and abbreviations that are hard to understand for non-technical personnel and layman. Therefore, we have compiled the most important technical terms and designations for you with the respective explanations:

  • Alarm valve (in various nominal sizes DN 80, DN 100, DN150, DN 200)
  • Response Time Index (RTI)
  • Triggering temperature (VdS standard 68° C, 93° C, 141° C, specification approx. 20 K above the normal ambient temperature)
  • Operational pressure (max.10 bar)
  • Fire risk classification to VdS CEA 4001
    • LH = Light Hazard (e.g. offices)
    • OH = Ordinary Hazard (e.g. mixing sections of production and storage)
    • HHS = High Hazard Storage (e.g. sole storage)
    • HHP = High Hazard Production (e.g. sole manufacturing areas)
    • Effective range (from 72 to 360m2)
  • Minimum pressure on the sprinkler (between 0,35 ?2,8 bar)
  • Tubular system consisting of:
    • main tubing
    • distribution tubing
    • slab tube (quality to DIN 2440, 2448 or 2458)
  • Sprinkler protection area (between 9; 12; 15 and 21m2)
  • Water discharge (mm/min)
  • Water supply (restricted/inexhaustible)
  • Duration (min., 60 min. or 90 min.)
